Architectural and Ecological Control Committee

June 2020 Newsletter

Greetings from the AEC Committee! The purpose of our committee is to review requests from homeowners for renovations and additions to their homes. In addition, the committee reviews plans for new construction of homes. We also review requests for tree removals whether it is combined with renovations, new constructions or just to remove a tree. The committee meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month.

In conducting our reviews, the committee follows the design and ecology reference guide (revised May 19, 2018). This guide is available on the MPOA website (www.massanuttenvillage.com).

We would like to welcome two new members to our committee Benjamin Parker and Leontine “Lee” Cunningham. Thank you for volunteering to serve your community.

Thank you to all owners who have and continue to call the office regarding dead tree removals. It certainly helps keep the committee and MPOA staff informed so that any neighbor concerns can be addressed.

As the days grow longer you may be tempted to work outside longer but please keep in mind no heavy or noisy equipment use before 7 am or after 8 pm.

Thinking about a fence to contain your dog. Fences are permitted providing you follow the design guidance outlined in our reference guide and get approval prior to beginning construction. Fences are secured to posts and not trees. Placing nails in trees creates a wound which could let disease in or cause a tree to die. One thing a fence does not do is stop a dog from barking!

One especially important item is your 911 address. If this is not posted on your property as required your request will not be considered. Plus, when time is of the essence in response to a 911 call, the visibility of the address is needed to guide first responders to your home. We are still seeing missing 911 addresses, missing numbers, etc. Please look at your sign, be sure it is visible and in good shape

If you have a question about the guide or your project you should call MPOA Administrator Carter Miller or committee liaison Sheri Snyder at 540-289-9466.

Best wishes from the AEC Committee, your neighbors
