Greetings Property Owners,
As we are all aware, there is concern related to the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in our community. The MPOA Board of Directors has its regularly scheduled bi-monthly Board meeting scheduled for March 21, 2020. On March 15, 2020, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released Interim Guidance for COVID-19 related to Mass Gatherings or Large Community Events. The interim guidance recommends all mass gatherings or large community events of 50 people or more be postponed or cancelled for a minimum of 8 weeks. Events of this size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. Given the potential turn-out for the Board meeting, the size of the MPOA meeting room, and out of consideration for vulnerable populations in our community, I am postponing the Board of Directors meeting in accordance with the CDC recommendations. The Board will closely follow the latest guidance and recommendations from the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health, and consider options to conduct MPOA business in an open and transparent manner while minimizing risk to the community, including virtual meetings. The MPOA Board will conduct routine business, as necessary, through electronic means and actions will be communicated to property owners. Any non-routine business or issues of significance to the community will not be conducted until the Board is able to resume its typical meeting structure or via a method that will allow community input. In addition, MPOA Administration is putting into place a protocol to help keep our employees, property owners, and customers safe including additional measures related hygiene and social distancing. In other news:
MPOA is beginning to review an expedited rate increase request by Utilities Inc. that was filed on March 10, 2020 with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). The file number is PUR-2020-00039 if you would like to read the filing on the SCC website. We are discussing options with legal counsel and will report on that to the community when the Board is able to schedule a public meeting. We know the community’s sentiment on the issue from the last rate increase which was just finalized last year, and are continuing to work with Rockingham County to acquire and operate the utility system.
